Wallén, tidigare ordförande i Svenska MMA-förbundet, har varit en drivande kraft inom svensk MMA under 2000-talet. Redan med start 1995 tog han hit sporten MMA, då under namnet shootfighting, till Sverige och grundade Svenska Shootfighting förbundet. Wallén var med och grundade IMMAF i februari 2012. Han har som ordförande fått tillfredsställelsen av att se förbundet växa imponerande stort med totalt 24 medlemsländer under det 1½ år som IMMAF funnits. Man har även arbetat på att anordna det första internationella världsmästerskapet i amatör-MMA som är planerat till juli 2014 i Las Vegas, USA. Det är en imponerande ansats som IMMAF lyckats med på denna korta tid.Â

Today I encourage everyone in the world of MMA to take moment out of their day and send a thought of thanks to one amazing man, August Wallén. I want to thank my friend, colleague and (for another few hours still), boss, for his time as President of the IMMAF. Thank you for realizing that the sport of MMA deserved its own representation, thank you for devoting your time, resources and energy in to this project, and by that giving thousands of MMA athletes, practitioners and fans a better future. Thank you for the debates and the discussions where we together reached a result that was far greater than the two of us combined. You are visionary, stubborn as hell, hard as a rock but also caring and embracing towards the people around you to an extent that few understand. Now we wait with excitement as you embark on a new period where your energy is spent on our most exciting task so far – The IMMAF World Championships. Upwards and onwards!
